Central Kenai Peninsula writers, tell us a tale!
The Redoubt Reporter is holding a writing contest for central Kenai Peninsula writers, with a youth and adult division, in three categories:
- Original fiction
- Nonfiction
- Poetry
Contest results and a selection of entries will be published in the June 6, 2012, Redoubt Reporter, and online.
Contest open to:
Central Peninsula residents: Nikiski to Ninilchik, Cooper Landing to Kenai.
Ages: Youth division, 18 and under. Adult, 19 and above.
Entry rules and fee:
Writers may enter just one category, or all three. Only one entry per category is allowed.
A $15 submission fee is required for each entry. All entry fees will be used as awards for the winning entries.
Word limit: Poetry, up to 500 words. Fiction and nonfiction, up to 1,000 words.
Subject matter:
All entries in the fiction category must include the following sentence in the first paragraph: “This sort of thing hadn’t happened since the last time Mount Redoubt erupted.”
All entries in the poetry and nonfiction categories must relate to the following topic: “The moment you were struck with the realization you were in Alaska.”
Submission deadline:
Entries must be received by midnight May 18, 2012.
Submission protocol: Entries may be emailed to redoubtreporter@alaska.net. Indicate whether the submission is for the fiction, nonfiction or poetry category, in the youth or adult division. Entries should be pasted in the body of an email, rather than attached as a separate file. Entries must include the writer’s name, address, phone number and email address.
